I’m facilitating a writing workshop for some local writer friends that I know personally this February. The format is loosely based off of Camp NaNoWriMo where everyone sets their own goals.
We have academic writers hoping to get journal articles edited down for peer review, a writing instructor hoping to get into a better “writing practice” by making time every day to work on her personal projects, another academic who wants to work on a novel instead of constantly writing articles for journal publication, a prolific fantasy writer who wants to work on a poem as a gift for a friend, and a non-fiction writer who just turned in her manuscript for editing and is working on organizing her thoughts for her next project. It’s a really good mix of different types of writers in different stages of their careers and projects.
I’ve missed all of my self-set goals so far this month, and everyone else is struggling as well, but I’m hoping we can at least sustain the effort throughout the month and keep putting positive pressure on each other to make progress toward our disparate goals.
